‘The City Wears A Slouch Hat’ – Original recording + great anecdote

On March 10  2012 we will play the NL première of John Cage‘s radio play ‘The City Wears a Slouch Hat‘ in Theater aan het Spui, The Hague. Below you can hear a big part the original radio broadcast:

Great anecdote on the official website:

‎In 1941 Cage got a commission for CBS Radio to write music for a radio play. Initially Cage composed work, based on his ideas using electronic sound effects, assuming this could be realized in the CBS studios. A week before the radio broadcast, Cage went over to make the recordings, but since the technician told him it could not be done in such a short time, Cage had to compose another work, just four days before its broadcast. The original manuscript is probably lost.

‘Timber’ in a hardware store

Our colleagues of Mantra Percussion made a great video about Michael Gordon’s ‘Timber’. See them play this piece in a hardware store, and explain some details about the piece.

We’ve still got some copies of the special wooden box edition of ‘Timber’ available at our website. Get them while they last.

‘Timber’ used in DJ Kypksi-mix

DJ Kypski, a well-known Dutch dj from the act C-Mon & Kypski, used the SDH recording of ‘Timber’ in a new mix. The mix was made for the Amsterdam Dance Event, a big conference about dance music that took place in Amsterdam.

Music used in the mix:
Spag Heddy – Heavenly Warfare (Basserk)
Sjam & Kypski – The Clocktave (Supertracks)
Dj Mehdi – Wee Bounce (Ed Banger)
Slagwerk Den Haag – Timber (Cantaloupe)
